Garden City Sleep Apnea Treatment Helping Patients Sleep Soundly

Many patients don’t realize that they can turn to their dentist with a problem like this, but Dr. Gary Sherman is proud to have helped several of his patients achieve more restful nights with oral appliance therapy, and he can do the same for you. Contact Franklin Avenue Dental Care today if you have any questions for our team, or if you’re ready to schedule an appointment. What is sleep apnea?
Sleep apnea occurs when a patient’s airway becomes partially or fully blocked during sleep, resulting in their body being constantly deprived of necessary oxygen. The brain corrects this by sending out an emergency signal to wake up and readjust. While these disruptions may be brief and not even remembered in the morning, they can occur up to hundreds of times each night.
Common signs of sleep apnea include:
- Daytime exhaustion and fatigue
- Loud, chronic snoring
- Problems with memory and concentration
- Morning headaches
- Morning sore throat/dry mouth
- Choking, gasping, or periods of complete silence while sleeping (check with your bed partner)
Oral Appliance Therapy
Instead of having to rely on uncomfortable CPAP treatment, patients who have been diagnosed with mild to moderate sleep apnea can turn to our practice for assistance. Dr. Sherman will provide a customized oral appliance (also known as a “snoreguard”) that comfortably repositions the jaw while you rest, unblocking your airway and allowing you to breathe easy throughout the night.
